Is Dental Treatment in Turkey Safe? A 2026 Checklist From Our Istanbul Dentists
By the Lamis Clinic Dental Team, Istanbul · Updated October 2026
Short answer: dental treatment in Turkey is safe when you choose a licensed clinic, get a written plan per tooth, and know who looks after you once you fly home. The risk isn't the country. It's the corner of the market that sells speed and volume over dentistry.
We write this as dentists who treat European patients every week. Below is the same checklist we'd give our own family.
Why so many Europeans are asking this question
Two things are true at once. Turkey has a large, modern private dental sector and some of the best dental faculties in the region. And UK dentists keep seeing patients who come home with problems: in a British Dental Association survey of 1,000 dentists, 86% said they had treated complications after treatment abroad, with crowns the most common to need follow-up.
That survey counted dentists who had seen at least one problem case — not the share of patients who had trouble. But it tells you where things go wrong: aggressive tooth preparation, rushed timelines and no plan for aftercare.
The 10-point safety checklist

Ministry of Health authorisation. Clinics treating foreign patients in Turkey must hold an International Health Tourism Authorisation Certificate. Ask for the number and check it.
Named dentists, not just a brand. You should know exactly who will treat you, their qualifications and their speciality — before you book a flight.
A written plan per tooth. Not "20 veneers". Which teeth get veneers, which get crowns, which need nothing — and why.
A diagnosis from real records. Recent photos, an OPG X-ray and, for implants, a 3D CBCT scan. A quote from a selfie is a sales price, not a plan.
Honest timelines. Veneers and crowns usually need 5–7 days. Implants usually need two trips, 3–6 months apart.
Material and brand names in writing. E-max, zirconia, implant brand and system — written on the plan, with the implant passport after surgery.
Sterilisation you can see. Ask how instruments are sterilised and tracked. A good clinic is happy to show you.
No pressure. "Book this week for 20% off" is a red flag. Your teeth are not a flash sale.
A guarantee you can read. What is covered, for how long, and what you need to do to keep it valid.
An aftercare route home. Who answers you on day 10, month 3 and year 2? How are records shared with your dentist at home?
How we handle safety at Lamis Clinic
Every patient starts with an online review of photos and X-rays by our dentists. You receive a written treatment plan that names the dentist, the material for each tooth and the number of visits. We would rather tell you a veneer case needs only six teeth than sell you twenty.
After treatment you leave with your X-rays, the materials list and a direct line to our team on WhatsApp. Your dental treatment is also protected by our 20-year written guarantee.
Questions patients ask us
Is Istanbul or Antalya safer for dental work? Safety depends on the clinic, not the city. Istanbul gives you the widest choice of specialists and direct flights from almost every European airport.
Are Turkish dentists qualified? Dentists in Turkey complete a five-year dental degree and must be licensed by the Ministry of Health. Specialists train further. Ask to see both.
Can I talk to my dentist before I travel? Yes — and you should. A video call with the dentist who will treat you is the best safety check there is.
