Dental Implants in Turkey: How Many Trips and How Long to Stay?

Short answer: most dental implant plans need two trips. The first takes about 5–7 days for surgery; the second, 3–6 months later, takes about 5–7 days to fit your permanent teeth. The gap is not a sales trick — it's the time your bone needs to grow around the implant.

Why implants can't be rushed

An implant is a small titanium root placed in the jawbone. Over the following months the bone bonds to it — a process called osseointegration. Fitting heavy permanent teeth before that happens is one of the main reasons implants fail. A clinic that promises final teeth on every case in a single short trip is skipping biology.

Your implant journey, step by step

  1. Before you travel (at home): send photos, a recent X-ray and your medical history. We review them and send a written plan, the number of implants, and an estimate of your two trip dates.

  2. Trip 1 — about 5–7 days in Istanbul: 3D CBCT scan and consultation on day 1, implant surgery (plus any extractions or grafting), check-ups, and, when your case allows, temporary teeth to wear home between trips.

  3. Healing at home — 3–6 months: normal life, soft foods for the first days, and photo check-ins with our team.

  4. Trip 2 — about 5–7 days in Istanbul: scans, try-in of your final crowns or bridge, adjustments to your bite, and final fitting. You leave with your implant passport and X-rays.

Typical timelines by treatment

  • Single implant + crown: 2 trips of 5–7 days · 3–6 months in total

  • Several implants / implant bridge: 2 trips of 5–7 days · 3–6 months in total

  • All-on-4 / All-on-6 (full arch): 2 trips of about 7 days · 3–6 months in total

  • Implants with bone grafting: 2–3 trips of 5–7 days · 6–9 months in total

Every mouth is different. Bone quality, gum health, smoking and diabetes all change the timeline — which is why the plan comes after the scan, not before.

What about "same-day" or "one-trip" implants?

Immediate loading — fixed temporary teeth on the day of surgery — works well for selected patients with good bone. But the final, long-term teeth are still usually fitted after healing. Ask any clinic: "Is this temporary or final?"

Planning tips from our patient team

  • Book flexible return flights for trip 1 in case a check-up moves.

  • Avoid alcohol, smoking and flying with a cold in the first days after surgery.

  • Plan the second trip around work holidays — many patients pair it with a few days exploring Istanbul.

Which implants do we use? We place Medigma implants, made by Medigma Biomedical in Germany, and plan every case on a 3D CBCT scan taken here in our Istanbul clinic. After surgery you receive an implant passport with the brand, size and batch of each implant — keep it for your dentist at home.

Questions patients ask us

Can I fly the day after implant surgery? Usually after 24–48 hours, once your dentist checks you. We plan your flight around the final check.

Does implant surgery hurt? It's done under local anaesthetic, so you feel pressure but not pain. Most people take normal pain relief for a few days.

Do I need a CT scan before I come? No. We take a 3D scan in our clinic on day 1, but a recent X-ray from home helps us plan in advance.
